Here are a few pictures of the show held in Prescott, WI at the River Heights
Motel today. I am very happy because my red head normal back hen Gouldian
won (1st place) Best in Division and Best Finch in Show! NFSS closed
banded 07 bird. Our European goldfinch took 8th and pair of green singers
placed 10th in the top 10 in the Finch Division. The club gave
engraved/etched glassware for trophies. Roy & Sharon, Nancy, Rod, Pat and
I attended from the Central Wisconsin Cage & Wild Bird Club. We had a
wonderful time talking birds with all bird people there.
We brought home a beautiful pair of star finches from Eunice. Nancy bought a
very pretty pair of pink Bourke parakeets from Jerry. Many beautiful
canaries and finches were entered in the show. We had such a good time and
everyone was so friendly that Pat & I and Rod decided to join their club.
Because of distance, we won't be attending many meetings but will sure try to
help out with next year's show. The finch judge was Martha Wigmore from MN
and the canary judge was Jim Pickel from Kansas. We had met both of
these judges at previous shows. Rod entered birds for the first time
today. Martha said she was very pleased with the beautiful finches
entered and thanked everyone for bringing them to the show . She takes her
time when judging the birds and offers many helpful comments about showing
birds. She welcomes questions from those watching the show.
Sharon's birds placed on the top bench in the canary division. (sorry I
did not get the place numbers) The club had a wonderful raffle and Roy,
Sharon, Rod, Nancy, Pat, and I were lucky to win several prizes. Warren, a
club member celebrated his 84th birthday so we all sang Happy Birthday
and enjoyed Birthday cake. A friend of mine from MN, Sara stopped by to
collect a male green singer, which I had promised her in return for a pair that
she gave me a few years ago.
A good time was had by all!

Friday,, November 2, Pat and I are heading to Prescott, WI to The MN Canary and
Finch Show/Sale. We plan to stay over Friday because they want the birds
all checked in by 8:30a.m. on Saturday for the judging. Then we will be
heading home Sat. after the show. Sunday, not real sure about this, I am
going to Madison to meet my niece and take her chair shopping for dorm room
chair.
As I told Tom, perhaps we can get together still in November before it gets too
snowy and cold.

Pictures from Elaine and Gene's October Meeting
Notes from the meeting:
Thanks to Gene and Elaine for hosting our gathering, it was a wonderful time for
all of us. I think there were 20 people attending. Schlags have a
"show place" with all their animals and beautiful yard. We had quite
a collection there, chickens, pigeons, mini horse, 3 month old donkey, LUCKY,
their cute little dog, sheep, kitties, beautiful birds to trade and view, of
yes, Tom's lovely corn snake, Spot. That is the first time I ever touched
a snake, maybe I will work my way up to actually holding it someday,
....maybe.....then again maybe not...
Sue updated us on her new job at the Northwoods Wildlife Rescue, which we all
found to be very interesting. After lunch we had a small auction with
David and Carlos winning the Halloween lights and Rod the pumpkin candle.
Roy won the quail from Troy and Marlene the zebras ( on eggs already and why
would that surprise anyone, lol) from Stacy.
Some of us are planning to attend the MN Canary & Finch Show/sale in Prescott,
WI Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007. I will take lots of pictures and let
everyone know how it went. Take care and plan on attending the next get
together at Rod and Shirley's on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1:00p.m.

The Central Wisconsin Cage and Wild Bird Club met on Saturday, September 1, 2007
at Marlene and Pat Minors in Pittsville. It was a great get together of
15 members and 2 visitors. As usual, we all enjoyed the wonderful
selection of food on our pot luck table. We had 3 desserts which were
sooooo good!
Diane brought some very beautiful birds that she offered for sale. Stacy got
one of the sweetest quakers from her that I have ever seen and Phil took home a
beautiful mate for his little parrotlet. David and Stacy also got some
young gouldians from me.
Jean and Bob brought their clippers and clipped Skarlet's nails for me.
Thanks to Jean, it feels so much better now when Skarlet sits on my arm.
Jackie brought a sample of Birdie Bread treat for Skarlet, which Skarlet just
loves.
Sue told us a bit about her recent training at the NorthWoods Wildlife Rescue.
She did her first transport, which was a injured morning dove.
Elaine and Gene brought some zucchini and tomatoes to share.
Everyone had a very relaxing afternoon visiting and talking birds.
The next meeting will be on Saturday, October 13th at 1p.m. at Gene and
Elaine's.
There is a Small Animal Swap at Neillsville that morning. Get up early and
check out the swap, they are fun!
Here are a couple pictures that Elaine took Saturday, Gene and Skarlet,
Elaine and Charlie sharing lunch, members share information at the gathering.
After many problems with the new VISTA program, Tom was able to get our website
back in fine shape. Thank you Tom for all your hard work on the web.

Last month we met at the Wildwood Park and Zoo in Marshfield. The rain
held off so Rod and Shirley could bring the horse and buggy into town.
Sara and many of the zoo visitors at the park enjoyed seeing Levi. Gene
and Elaine brought Lucky too. Sara had a good time leading both Levi and
Lucky around (not at the same time, lol) and sharing her lunch with them.
It was good to see so many members came and enjoy the wonderful lunch, weather,
and bird talk. We have members with so many different birds that there is
never a lull in the conversation.
We have the building reserved for our Bird and Garden Fair in 2008 and 2009.
We have lots of time to work on the details of next year's fair. It gets a
little bigger and better each year. As always, it is alot of fun for
everyone. Here are some pictures from the last meeting.
Hello bird
people!
The next get
together is Saturday, June 2 at 1:00p.m. It was suggested that we visit
the Marshfield zoo and picnic in the beautiful park. So we will have a
picnic! Pray the weather cooperates. We can all toss in a buck or 2
for KFC (I can pick that up) Please bring a side dish to go with the
chicken. We will have a small raffle with items left from the fair and maybe we
will have a few games. I will bring the plates, silverware, and cups.
Tom is bringing that good ice tea drink he brought last time. Also, Tom is in
charge of entertainment this year. He and Rosie have been taking hula-hoop
lessons and will demonstrate what they have learned. Any questions, please feel
free to give me a call at 715-884-2659 or email me.
The next meeting is
Saturday, May 5th @1p.m. We will have hotdogs and brats. Please bring
something to go with that. Call me if you can come and I can let you know
what we have and suggest what to bring. Thanks
Marlene
We had a good time at Rod and Shirley's yesterday. Everyone enjoyed seeing
the 4 little puppies and getting to hold them. I don't think I saw Sara
but a few times when she didn't have one in her arms, they are so cute! I
will attach a picture for you to see. In spite of the cold wind, Rod and
the grandkids gave horse & buggy rides. Thanks Levi! Picture
attached. Their mare didn't have her baby yet so we will have to wait to
meet the little colt. Shirley showed some of her beautiful needle work
that she is going to have for sale at the fair and what she will donate for our
silent auction. Other members told what they are planning to donate to the
Raffle/Silent Auction too. Sharon has been busy creating a baby quilt,
Brian and Jackie are going to bring a parrot "Jungle Gym" for the big birds to
hang out on. I think I can talk Pat out of a pair of birds for the Auction
and I bet Troy will be donating some pretty flowers from his shop in Chetek.
Brad brought a pretty glass angel that he crafted from stained glass and lead.
Elaine has been a real help this year in going around the Marshfield area to put
up flyers and collect items for the raffle table. She has received several
gift certificates (10.00 to 25.00 value) from area stores as well as different
items from their stores. Good job, Elaine! She is a Watkin's
Distributer and is going to put together some Watkin's products for the raffle
table. I know other members and vendors will be donating to make our
raffle/auction a good one.
This year we really beefed up our advertising! Our ad will be in the
Buyer's Guide 3 times, March, April and May. I will be putting ad in The
Trader. Local newspaper at least 1 time. Advertising is very costly
so it is important for everyone to get around with the flyers and send
info to any place (tv or radio) that advertises at no charge.
Rod will take care of putting up signs on the day of the fair and Elaine is
going to put out some signs before the fair date. Rod will pick up the key
Friday night so we can get in the building early on Saturday and set up. Thank
you!
We went over the times for the events day of fair:
7:30am set up; 8:30am vendors set up;
10am open to public; 11am dog obedience demo; 12pm raffle;
1pm Northwoods Wildlife; 2pm raffle; 3pm close and clean up.
It sounds like it will be even more fun that last year.
I forgot to mention yesterday that the lady who does face/body painting will be
able to come this year. She charges $2.00 donation per painting. Not
the little smiley face or flowers, just fantastic art work! You never want
to wash it off;)
I received an email from our friends Sierra and Reid from Sparta, they will not
be able to join us at the fair this year due to Mom's ongoing health issues.
Sierra, if next month things are looking better, you are welcome to join
us....just come and we will set up a spot for you and your pretty birds.
Several members let me know that they would not be able to join us at the
gathering.... Carolyn, who is busy with a new job, congratulations to you CB!
David was busy with their new dog, Sue (Hurley, WI) thanks to MORE snow
"up north". She had waist deep snow the other day, will it ever end?????
We decided that we would like to get together again before the fair. We
are going to meet at Minor's in Pittsville on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 1p.m.
The Fair is all set up and so this will be a fun get together! If you can
come, please let me know so we can plan our lunch. Thanks
Marlene 715-884-2659 or email me at
mminor@tds.net.
Next meeting of
CWCWBCC ;) will be held at Rod and Shirley's on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at
1:00p.m. They will be serving BarBQs so please bring something to go with
them. You can call Shirley for a suggestion of what to bring, if you want
at 715-676-2301.
Rod is planning
to hitch up Levi and give horse and buggy rides if the weather is nice.
Also one of their horses is expected to give birth anyday so we will be able to
see a "newborn" colt.
As usual if you
have questions about the club or meeting, please feel free to give me or Rod a
call. Thanks & see ya there!

March Meeting
The new meeting
time and location seemed to work out well for us. In case you didn't know,
we decided to try out a new meeting location, the Community Room in the Goodwill
store building. It is for use at no charge and we can bring our birds in
there. There is a TV, VCR, and DVD for our use, if needed. We can
use their break room if we need a sink, water, refrigerator, microwave. We
all enjoyed the meeting, snacking (tons of food, as usual) and shopping at
Goodwill, lol. I found a pair of crosscountry boots, which are not too
easy to find with the old 3 prong system and a lamp for the bird room. Not
sure what goodies everyone else found. lol, it was fun.
Tom brought
some canaries for Phil, Nancy, Rod and Nancy. Roy and Sharon had some
cages along they were selling for a friend. We welcomed a new club member, Brad.
We discussed the May 19, 2007 bird fair, which is coming together very well.
We have 18-19 tables spoken for already and some have reserved a favorite table
placement with their payment.
Plans are in
the works to join another Wisconsin club for a field trip to the Green Bay zoo
this summer. I have heard the zoo has a wonderful collection of birds and
animals. Check the website for more details on the zoo trip later this
year.
We
missed several members at the gathering. Jackie's girls had swim meets
and Carolyn had a Lady Hawker meeting. Elaine was planning to come but at the
last minute had to change plans. Sue couldn't make it due to weather and
road conditions. Despite the awful roads, we had a good turnout with 12
members in attendance. Nancy and I saw 2 cars in the ditch on the way
home. There were stretches that were very slippery! Found out this
morning that one of the accidents, which still had several fire trucks (firemen
directing traffic) ambulance and squad cars at the scene when we came
through, claimed several lives. Apparently the road had been closed off
and the helicopter had been there to take people to the hospital, all before we
came through. One of those killed in the wreck was Sara's (my
granddaughter)great unkle. Sara's Great Grandmother had passed away at the
hospice that morning and her children were getting together to make funeral
arrangements, etc. When one of the brothers didn't show up on time, they
started to check and found he was in the accident. So now that family has
a double funeral to attend this week.
Either Rod and
Shirley or Elaine will host the April get together.
Check the
website for location and more details: http://www.cwwcbc.us/bc/

Here is Brian and the parrot play stand he constructed. He said he will try do get one for the fair raffle.
Welcome to our newest club member, Sharon Schill. We are glad that you decided to join our friendly bird club.
